Good Reasons To Take Your Kids To the River

Children of the Rio Grande.

My childhood family vacations centered around the outdoors. My brothers and I were often the only kids on these trips and we were never bored. The highlight was heading to the river with the canoes and all the fishing gear we had. We entertained ourselves by playing games, swimming, chasing bugs and paddling the canoes. Dad did not tolerate any whining so we had to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Regardless, the best memories of my childhood are all from these outdoor trips. As a guide, the families on my rafting trips inspire me to give their children a trip they will not forget. Kids flourish on the river by playing, creating, and entertaining themselves with nature.

THERE’S NOTHING LIKE PLAYING IN THE MUD AND NOT CARING.

5 Good Reasons

1. Get Dirty

A little bit of sand or mud is not the end of the world. The raft pulls up at a beach for a break and what do the kids do? They immediately begin searching for something to do. Castles in the sand. Mud – sticky, slippery and fun. With the river right there, a quick rinse and they’re good to go.

2. No Technology

The river environment is a healthy reboot for everyone. The devices have been left behind. Kids become engaged in the action – the river and its surroundings. Kids always hate to see the trip end.  They don’t want the fun to stop!

3. Making Memories

Participating in a river adventure gives your whole family a chance to bond and take time away from your busy lives. It’s always nice when you can look back through old photos and reminisce on the fun times you had with your kids.

4. Getting Outside

Mother Nature makes us feel better emotionally. It also contributes to our physical well being. River running boosts your child’s interest in life and nature, improves self esteem, reduces stress and gives her/him an experience of shared effort. That’s why it’s such a great idea to get your kids out on the water to experience the thrills of whitewater rafting as a team.

5. Something New

If your kids have never been rafting, now is the perfect opportunity to give them a new experience. A rafting trip will ensure your kids learn a lot while participating in something they’ve never done before. It’s a great way to help your kids grow and thrive, and show them enjoyable, exciting, new ways to have fun and learn.
