We meet you at the Quartzite River Access (Pilar, on Hwy 68), at 10:30AM, leave your car there, and transport you upstream to Taos Junction bridge. The trip ends in mid PM (varies according to water level) back at the Quartzite site, where your car was parked.
Our easy Monument Scenic Float full-day trip traverses the entire Orilla Verde (Green Banks) Recreation Area section of the Rio Grande, which is included in the newly designated Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. This is a very scenic 7-mile full-day trip. Here, the river is enclosed by 700′ high basalt cliffs, with lush river banks. Along the way, you may see various song birds, geese, ducks, beaver, muskrat, bighorn sheep and even otters! The trip begins at the Taos Junction bridge and ends at the Quartzite river access site, in Pilar. An easy “float”, the trip is suitable for children as young as 4, and aged or anxious adults. Funyaks are suitable for this trip, and are available upon request at no extra charge.
Driving time to the Quartzite River Access is one and a half hours from Santa Fe and 30 minutes from Taos.
We can also provide funyaks at no extra cost in low water conditions (for those in good physical condition). Just ask.
