Steve Miller Photography

Contributing Photographer
for New Wave Rafting

Steve bought his first camera in 1962, just before leaving for a climbing trip to the Alps. He went over with his climbing partner, David Hiser, who later became a photographer for the National Geographic Magazine, and who was a great influence on Steve’s photography efforts. He took photos of everything he did, and most particularly of his outdoor adventures: climbing, skiing, rafting, kayaking, hiking, conducting Outward Bound courses and more. While only publishing photos now and again, his photographic career came into closer focus with the publication (in 2005) of “The Grand, The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, a Photo Journey”, by the Wilderness Press.

Thereafter, the advent of self-publishing allowed him to put very many of his photos into electronic book (iBooks) form, which now includes subsequent editions of The Grand, books on the land and rivers of the Southwest and, most recently, Rio Maranon, about running a 400 mile stretch of the upper Amazon in Peru, which he and wife Kathy accomplished in 2015.
