Children need outdoor activities. Research indicates that kids do better in school when they have access to the outdoors. Rivers are very important to families across the world. Both a valuable source for clean drinking water and outdoor recreation.
1. They need clean drinking water.
More than half of the drinking water in the United States comes from rivers. They need to know that the water coming from our taps is safe to drink. Too many cities do not have clean drinking water. They need to know their bodies are directly connected to the health of rivers and the natural world.
2. Children need the outdoors.
Playing outside in Mother Nature is good for their brains and bodies. Rivers provide opportunities for fun, wonder, discovery, and exercise. Americans must insist on public access to rivers, parks, and other outdoor areas.
3. Children own the rivers.
We all do. Rivers are public resources that benefits all Americans. The rivers of the world connect us – past, present and future. Our children inherit all of this, and they will pass it on to the next generation.
